"Has he read my message?" With modern messaging apps, the question has an instant answer. With SMS, it doesn't — and for an anonymous send, this absence of information works in your favour as much as in theirs.
SMS doesn't say whether it was read
Unlike WhatsApp or Signal, a standard SMS returns no read receipt. There is indeed a technical delivery report at the network level, but at best it signals that a carrier took the message in hand — not that a human opened it.
What the recipient actually sees
On arrival, they only see a shared gateway number and your text. No "online" status, no profile picture, no reading time comes back to you, and nothing comes down to them on your account: you don't have one. The exchange stays deliberately asymmetric.
