Opt-in

Opt-in names the consent gathered upstream from the person concerned. It is meant to be free, specific, informed and unambiguous: a pre-ticked box or a consent buried in general terms doesn't hold.

In France, canvassing an individual by SMS rests on this foundation: without prior and provable consent obtained, the send is out of bounds. And it's up to the sender to provide proof of consent.
