How do I know if my SMS was received?

Send accepted and actual receipt: two different things.

All questions
In short

The gateway confirms acceptance of the message, not its display on the phone: there is no delivery receipt. The absence of an error does not guarantee it was read.

The service confirms that your message was accepted for delivery. There is, however, no read receipt telling you the recipient opened it.

The answer in detail

After confirming, you get a send confirmation: the message went to the gateway and then to the mobile network. That's the guarantee the request was accepted.

Actual receipt then depends on the recipient's network and phone (coverage, device switched off, full memory, etc.). Since your number stays hidden, no feedback comes back to you automatically — no "delivered" or "read".

If confirmation of receipt is essential, include a way to reply in the text so the recipient can, if they wish, let you know they've read it.

Real-world examples

  • Send confirmation

The form indicates that the message was accepted for delivery.

  • No read receipt

You don't get a "read" notification; add a channel for replies if needed.

Key takeaway

Confirmation of the send yes, read receipt no; add a channel for replies if proof matters.
