SMS Anonyme or RCS?
The designated successor, and what keeps SMS indispensable.
RCS, or Rich Communication Services, is the format meant to take over from SMS: long messages, images, typing and read indicators. But its presence depends on the mobile, the carrier and the country, whereas SMS works everywhere and on any device since the 1990s — and through our gateway, without letting your number be seen.
The head-to-head, criterion by criterion
| Criterion | SMS | RCS |
|---|---|---|
| Compatibility | Everywhere, on any mobile | Variable depending on the device, carrier and country |
| Content | Text, within the 160-character limit | Long messages, images, buttons and carousels |
| Read receipts | Absent from the format | Handled natively |
| Connection | The mobile network alone, without data | Data access required |
| Fallback switch | Not applicable: it is already the universal base | Falls back to SMS when RCS is missing |
In conclusion: which one to pick?
RCS takes the advantage as soon as the message needs to be rich and you know the recipient is equipped. SMS remains, however, the only format whose arrival can be guaranteed without knowing anything about the mobile on the other end, and the only one, through our gateway, to hide your number — indeed it is the one RCS falls back to when it fails.
Your most frequently asked questions
Q01Will RCS make SMS disappear?
Not any time soon: RCS remains dependent on the device and the carrier, and falls back to SMS whenever it is not available.
Q02Does this site let you send an RCS?
No. The service is limited to classic SMS, received on all French mobiles, with your number hidden.
